Become a Contributor to Realm VTT!
The Realm VTT Marketplace is open for creators! Whether you're a seasoned adventure writer, mapmaker, or audio designer, you can now publish and monetize your tabletop RPG content on our creator-driven platform — and keep 100% of your sales as a Founding Contributor.
What is the Realm VTT Marketplace?
The Realm VTT Marketplace is a digital storefront where creators can publish, share, and sell custom content. Built into Realm VTT's platform, the marketplace connects content creators directly with game masters and players looking to enhance their campaigns.
Unlike traditional content marketplaces where you upload a static PDF or image pack, Realm VTT marketplace modules are interactive and ready to use. When a GM imports your module into their campaign, your maps come in with lighting and walls already configured, your NPCs arrive with stat blocks attached, and your audio is ready to play. This means less setup for the end user and a more polished product for you as a creator.
What Can You Publish on the Marketplace?
Realm VTT's module system supports a wide range of content types. Here are a few examples:
- Complete Adventures and One-Shots: Fully realized campaigns ready to run at the table, including encounters, story notes, NPC dialogue, and pre-built scenes
- Battlemaps and Scenes: High-quality maps with lighting, walls, and terrain pre-configured — you can even create maps from scratch using Canvas Scenes and export them
- Token Packs: Custom character tokens, monsters, and animated sprites that GMs can drop right onto their scenes
- Audio and Soundscapes: Music tracks, ambient sounds, and sound effects that bring atmosphere to every encounter
- Character Sheets and Templates: Pre-built character options and rulesets
- Macro Packs: Collections of useful custom macros that automate common gameplay tasks, from initiative tracking to complex spell effects
Tips for Creating High-Quality Marketplace Content
Standing out on the marketplace comes down to quality, usability, and presentation. Here are some practical tips to help your content succeed.
Make It Ready to Play
The biggest advantage of Realm VTT modules over static file downloads is interactivity. Take the time to fully configure your content before publishing. If you're creating a battlemap, add walls for line of sight, set up lighting sources, and place doors where appropriate. If you're publishing an adventure, attach the relevant NPCs, items, and spells directly to the scenes where they appear. The less work a GM has to do after importing your module, the better your reviews will be.
Write Clear Descriptions
Your module listing is your storefront. Write a clear, detailed description that tells potential buyers exactly what they're getting. Include a list of what's inside — the number of maps, NPCs, encounters, audio tracks, or tokens. Mention which game system it's designed for (D&D 5e, Pathfinder 2e, system-agnostic, etc.) and any dependencies on other modules. A well-written description builds trust and reduces refund requests.
Use High-Quality Art and Previews
First impressions matter. Set a compelling portrait image for your module and make sure any maps or tokens you include are high resolution. If you're an artist yourself, this is where your work speaks for itself. If you're licensing art from another creator, make sure you have the proper rights to distribute it commercially.
Think About Reusability
Some of the most popular VTT content isn't a single adventure — it's a toolkit. Token packs that cover a wide range of creature types, ambient audio collections organized by environment, or map packs themed around common dungeon types all have strong reuse value. GMs will come back to your content again and again if it slots easily into a variety of campaigns.
Test Before You Publish
Before submitting your module, import it into a fresh campaign and run through it as if you were a GM seeing it for the first time. Check that all walls and lighting work correctly, that NPC stat blocks are accurate, and that your scene layouts make sense. Catching issues before your audience does is essential for building a strong reputation.
Zero Platform Fees for Founding Contributors
As a thank you to early creators helping build our community, Realm VTT is offering zero platform fees for Founding Marketplace Contributors. This means you keep 100% of your sales — no revenue sharing, no transaction fees, no hidden costs.
This exclusive offer is available for a limited time to creators who join us early. If you've been looking for a platform that genuinely supports independent TTRPG creators, now is the best time to get started. Most digital marketplaces take anywhere from 20% to 50% of each sale, so this is a significant opportunity to maximize your earnings while building an audience on a growing platform.
How to Get Started as a Creator
Getting started on the Realm VTT Marketplace is straightforward:
- Create Your Account: Sign up for a free Realm VTT account at realmvtt.com
- Learn About Modules: Read our Modules Guide to understand how the system works
- Build Your Content: Use Realm VTT's built-in tools to create your module with maps, tokens, upload audio, and more
- Export Your Module: Submit the first version of your module for review
- Contact us For Contributor Status: Use the Contact form within Realm VTT to let us know which module you plan to publish. We'll review and upgrade your role to either contributor or publisher (if you plan on monetizing your content) and guide you through the rest of the process!
What Happens After You Submit?
Once you contact us with your module, our team will review it to make sure everything works as expected. We check for basic quality standards — functional walls and lighting, accurate stat blocks, and appropriate content. This isn't a creative gatekeeping process; we want to make sure the end user has a smooth experience when they import your work.
After approval, your module goes live on the marketplace. You can update it at any time by exporting a new version from your development campaign. We recommend keeping your development campaign intact so you can iterate on your content without starting from scratch.
Building Your Audience as a Creator
Publishing your first module is just the beginning. Here are some ways to grow your audience on the platform:
- Be consistent. Creators who publish regularly build a following faster than those who release one module and disappear. Even small releases like a token pack or a single one-shot adventure keep your name visible.
- Engage with the community. Join the Realm VTT Discord and participate in discussions. Share previews of what you're working on, ask for feedback, and help other creators. Community goodwill translates directly into word-of-mouth sales.
- Cross-promote your work. If you have a presence on social media, YouTube, or Patreon, link back to your marketplace modules. Likewise, use your module descriptions to link to your other published content on the platform.
- Listen to feedback. When GMs use your content and report issues or suggest improvements, take that feedback seriously. Updating your modules based on real-world play experience is one of the best ways to build a loyal customer base.
Interested in Publishing a Ruleset?
Developers who wish to help contribute to the available rulesets in Realm VTT are encouraged to do so! Please review the API for creation of rulesets in Realm VTT on our wiki. You can also join us on our Discord for help in writing rulesets. When ready to publish the first version, reach out to us about getting the contributor role.
Rulesets are the backbone of how Realm VTT handles game mechanics — they define character sheets, dice rolling logic, combat automation, and more. If you have experience with JavaScript and a deep knowledge of a particular tabletop RPG system, contributing a ruleset is one of the most impactful things you can do for the platform. Your ruleset enables every other creator to build content for that game system.
